The Fishburne field house was well defended from interconference and out-of-conference opponents as the Wrestling Caissons hosted the 2022 VISSA state duals tournament on 22 January. Despite weather and Covid cancellations, 7 teams converged for battle. Our cadets defeated Bishop Ireton (48-24), Hargrave (66-12), and St. Stephens & St. Agnes (48-24) on their way to meet the formidable Paul VI Panthers in the finals.
The 3rd ranked Caissons and the 4th ranked Panthers were almost equally matched in manpower, as neither team was plagued with forfeits. Cadets Mushkidiani (HWT) and Barone (120lb) lit the fire early, starting the meet with two pins. A strategic move by Paul VI’s coach bumped up their 1st ranked 126-pound wrestler to face Cadet Lianez in the 132-pound bout. As Lianez grinded out a stunning pin, the fire surged. Panther wrestlers were stymied as Caissons Dorman, Kreamer, Farrar, Branham, and Hoover all pinned their opponents on their march to victory (55-22). The Fishburne faithful were roaring by the end of the meet.
Congratulations to Cadet Dorman who accomplished his 100th career win against his Ireton opponent! Roll on, Caissons!
